Andy and I are exploring affordable honeymoon opportunities. We've decided that San Fran and Napa Valley are too expensive for a week. Can anyone provide any travel tips on Costa Rica? The Vist Costa Rica site (http://www.visitcostarica.com/) makes every region sound so wonderful. I can't decide where to focus! Any advice on what cities to search for info on or which airport would be much appreciated. Who knows if we could even swing it!

check out travel agents. they are free to use and get paid thru the resort/place that you choose to stay at that they recommend to you. they were so helpful in planning my honeymoon (we're going to st. lucia!).
we are going to costa rica too. i think i have some sites i can send you...

The Luna Lodge is a great eco-friendly, ethereal beauty for a fraction of the price of most places.
Check out Shermans Travel and National Geographic Adventure for more ideas.
We're going to Costa Rica too...the fiance has done a mind numbing amount of research. Shoot me an email if you're interested and I'll ask him for the info!
I got engaged in Costa Rica :)
We were there for a wedding. Check out trip advisor. Here's my review of the place we stayed:

A neat alternative ( and pretty cheap which is a plus) is Jamaica. It is sooooo nice and isn't too touristy. I went to Negril and stayed at the Whistling Bird Resort (http://www.negriljamaica.com/whistlingbird.html)
. If you go during the off season (non college and high school spring breaks) you can find great deals. Everything was all inclusive when I went there and they cooked you meals using ingredients from trees right on the grounds. I just thought it would be something to look into.
It really depends on what you want to do there...
Are you after a beachy getaway, or jungle eco-tourism?
I lived there for two years up till recently, so feel free to shoot me an email if you have any specific q's.
The two main airports are San Jose (SJO) in the south, or Liberia (LIR) in the north.
oops...
email is smith.vanessa.l@gmail.com
Tina, email me. We are going to CR for the third time this June. FAB-U-LOUS!!!
wow, looks like lots of great endorsements for costa rica! i initially thought it might be a little exotic considering your gripping fear of the silverfish that used to run around your lill apt. but maybe costa rica isn't the jungle that i picture! now i want to go there too!
OMG - the Luna Lodge looks AMAZING!!!
We're also trying to figure out a fun, nice, but not too expensive place to go on our honeymoon. You should do a post with some of the links/options people have sent you about Costa Rica and the ones you've found.
Love your blog!
I can recommend any of the Indiana state park lodges. They offer ethereal beauty for a fraction of the cost. New for 2008 - recycling bins have been added in all state park lodge rooms for those "eco-tourists."

I can also recommend the Lake Geneva Motel in Wisconsin. The Motel offers true Eco-Tourism as they have a free shuttle from the Fox Lake Metra so you can reduce your honeymoon's carbon footprint by utilizing mass transit. http://www.lakegenevamotelwi.com/overview.html
costa rica is amazing. we went for about 10 days and had a great time! granted it was almost 10 years ago as a class trip, but still...
wear TONS of sunscreen: the day we went to the beach i put on two coats and still came home with a HORRIBLE 2nd degree sunburn. OUCH
