Tree Party

Although anyone who knows me would agree say that I'd last less than 48 hours on a farm, I'd like to think that if I DID live on a farm, it would be adorable with huge trees under which I could hold parties like this:

Check out all of the DIY at this party. Oy vey. What a rock star.

Summer Reading List

I have been reading books like a bee-otch in the last few weeks. I just finished some good ones and thought I'd share.

Bad Marie: A Novel by Marcy Dermansky
A good, totally fast read. I bet that I could have finished this one in four hours if I had the time. Marie is definitely very naughty. (Originally recommended by one of my favorite bloggers.)

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender
Full disclosure: Aimee Bender is my favorite fiction author.
Every time I read one of her books, I close the back cover and think,
"Damn. I wish that I wrote that**."
This wasn't my favorite Bender book, but it was a fast, lyrical read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Also, in the "Damn. I wish that I wrote that" is anything by Miranda July. Her book and her movie both enthralled me. So quirky-yet-heartwarming and just wonderful.

Up next is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson, which I've been hauling around for the last month and My Life in France: Julia Child, which I've started and restarted about ten times. (Which seems odd, because I am loving it.)

P.S. I read the other book by The Little Bee author and thought it was so-so. Did anyone else catch it? What did you think?

Craft Room Curtains

I am hoping to finally get around to making the curtains for my craft room in the coming weeks.

After hemming and hawing on a look and color scheme, I ordered this fabric:

Well, I changed my mind AGAIN after stumbling upon the Alexander Henry Sofia fabric on etsy:

I now have five yards of this fabric sitting around just waiting for me to mess it up with my sub-par sewing skills. I can't wait to see how it turns out. (And $20 says that I'm still writing about this unfinished product next spring!)

Form vs. Function

I've had my heart set on the Wrap Office Chair from west elm for the longest time.

I'm so bummed to admit that it's just not comfortable! It's currently on sale, so I thought I'd finally purchase it and just make a cushion for it. But then I considered the cost of purchasing foam and an electric knife to cut it and decided it's just not worth it.

I was in Ikea today and tried out the Patrik chair that I have been eying for a few months, but it was also a little tough on the tookus.

I finally ended up with the comfy, cheap, and functional Karsten chair. It's OK. I think that I might recover that black base.

I'm still feeling non-committal, so I think that I'll pop into west elm one last time to give the wrap around and this chair one last sit before I assemble my new chair.

P.S. This chair in green is cute and comfortable, but it would have totally conflicted with my green walls.

New Bling

My friend gave me an adorable ring as a hostess gift this weekend:

I loved it! Unfortunately, it was a bit too snug. I exchanged it for this:

What a great consolation prize, huh? My friend is so generous. She was the guest of honor and I get a gift!

And while I'm looking at kate spade jewelery...

I totally want these purple earrings:

This would make an excellent statement necklace on your wedding day:

This would make an awesome "something blue:"

Pretty Dress

I love the neckline and silhouette of this dress seen on Classic Bride.
