I had a little budget freak out yesterday and was thinking, "How did things get this out of control?" My dress was $550 (not kidding), I'm wearing a $60 veil, I made all of our paper products (sadly, still expensive)...what happened? Then I started planning my next DIY project -- coasters. For about 30 seconds, I considered doing some Tina and Andy trivia or Chicago questions on them. But then I realized that I'd have to have about eight questions to make it fun -- at one screen per side per question, I'd be looking at 16 gocco screens ($40, before tax and shipping) and 32 lamps ($28.71, before tax and shipping), which would be $68.71 before ink and paper. Now, THAT'S how my budget got to be where it is. So, I bagged the trivia questions. Trivia Questions are so Late Eighties Thirtysomething Reruns anyway. My heart wasn't in the trivia; however, since I had already bought the coasters, I had to use them for something. So I printed our logo on them:
Not mindblowing, but still effective, in my opinion. I think that I'm retiring the logo after this project. I am really toe-ing the line of whimsy for a supposed city loft event. The napkins and coasters will be enough. I think that I might make a second batch with our skyline design or maybe to look like a faux political campaign button. We'll see what tickles my fancy when the gocco time comes...
This project was so simple! I highly recommend it. I'd even make some for you if need help and the time is right. Just e-mail or comment. If you're looking for blank coasters, I used 3 1/2" Round White Heavy Weight Coasters from Blockhead Stamps. The total, with shipping, was only $16.69 for 60 coasters.

Hmm, I'd love you to make me some... but I'm afraid my wedding is much too close (17 days!)
They are lovely though!

Pretty coasters! You are such a DIY queen!
But don't knock the trivia question. They are fun darn it.
And I am totally kidding about the trivia... ya gotta find ways to cut things out or you will go nuts trying to fit everything in...
thanks so much for posting this! i'm thinking of doing something similar, and had scoped out those exact coasters, but i'm happy to know that they worked for someone else. are those cd racks you have them in?
