Tagged Again

I was tagged again by Bridal Cheek and Amanda at Blue Sky Bride! Since I've already tagged six people, I'll just provide nine more inane facts about myself...which is like participating 1.5 more times. (i.e., I am procrastinating on doing the work that I brought home tonight.)

1. I was going to be named "Lisa Marie" until about a week before I was born. My mom decided that there were too many "Lisa Maries" and selected my new name while watching the opening credits of Gilligan's Island during her final week of pregnancy.


2. My eldest godson and I share the same birthday...almost to the minute.


3. Bill Murray is my ultimate celebrity crush. I fell in love with him while watching SNL reruns as a kid and never fell out of love. I spent the entire viewing of "Lost in Translation" mentally superimposing myself into Scarlett Johansson's role.


4. I don't like the Beach Boys. They don't annunciate when they sing.
   
5. I tell people that I have to wear flat shoes because of my stress fractures and knee pain; while that is true some days, the real truth is I've just gotten lazy.


6. All of my non-inherited furniture is from Target.


7. I used to write "Tina + Kirk" on my mom's lunch bags because I loved Kirk Cameron.


8. Joey McIntyre was my favorite New Kid on the Block.


9. My head is too mishapen for headbands. This has bothered me ever since I saw Elisabeth Shue wear bandanas to the beach in Karate Kid.

To DOC or Not DOC?

I've decided to check out Day of Coordinators for kicks. For miscellaneous reasons, I think that the peace of mind on wedding day would be a wise investment for me. And I think that not worrying about me freaking out will help Andy cold chill a bit come D-day.

I've already met with one coordinator and, while she definitely sold me on the virtues of a DOC, her proposal was twice our DOC budget. I have a meeting with a second DOC today and, judging from the look of her company's web site, I think that I'll like their style...get it?

P.S. How adorable is that bride's dress? I looked everywhere for a polka dot dress when I first started browsing, but couldn't find any for my body type. How cute is she!

Orange with Envy

The orange shoes arrived today! I love, love, love them! Everyone in the office agreed that they're just perfect. But I must say, my size 10 Volkswagens look HUGE in orange.

The ivory satin shoes arrived last week...WRAPPED IN NEWSPAPER. I am not even kidding you. The seller literally packed WHITE SATIN SHOES IN NEWSPAPER to protect them during mailing. He told me to try Woolite to get stains out, but I've been too busy to try. Keep your fingers crossed. I'm going to be so p*ssed if it doesn't work.

Designer Imposters

The current plan for addressing the wedding invitations is to use large circle stickers with printed addresses to match our stationery design. However, after reading several posts stressing the importance of calligraphy, I decided to explore my options before blindly committing social suicide.

I recently ordered a sample of Laura Hooper's work on etsy. I have to admit, seeing my name so beautifully scripted on a USPS Priority mail envelope did woo me. My first thought was "OMG. OF COURSE I need calligraphy!" But, by the morning, I was back to thinking that it was too expensive. I certainly appreciate the art form and it's purpose in the grand scheme of the event, but at the end of the day, I am buying wedding shoes on ebay and veils on etsy. A budget's a budget.

I started a discussion on The Unbrides Network to get some opinions and a gauge of my gaucheness. Justine Ungaro suggested that I check out Pretty Pen Jen. Jennifer Cota's work is both adorable and affordable. And it also had me thinking that I could try my hand at calligraphy. "Try" being the operative word.

When I showed my six pages of samples to Andy, he said, "Ugh, I don't know." My work didn't even warrant a "I guess it looks nice." It looks like a 5-year-old girl was trying to be fancy on the invites for her "tea party" for Tickle Me Elmo, the cast of High School the Musical, and Hannah Montana. The post office would probably scan all of them for explosives.

I hope that if Pretty Pen finds this in a Google search or something, she doesn't get mad at me for butchering her style. I'd hate to be sued or chastised over such a bad knock-off. Ha, Ha. I'm leaving the art to the artists from now on. I hope that my gocco attempt goes better.

P.S. I have a BRAND NEW Calligraphy for Dummies book if anyone needs one. It's too late for me to return it. I've never even cracked the spine. Leave a comment or e-mail me if you're interested in buying it.

P.S.S. The Save the Dates are in the mail! I'll post some pix later in the week after people start receiving them. I think that only a handful of my friends and family read this blog, but I feel like I should leave at least a little surprise for them.

1. I live walking distance to a very nice public pool but drive 15 minutes to the one at the gym because it's only 3' 10" deep. (I am too afraid of deep water to go the close one.)
2. I don't eat the tips of hot dogs and sausages. Or bread and pizza crusts.
   
3. My left foot is almost a half size smaller than my right foot.
4. I don't like super sweet ice cream or ice creams that have too many flavors, like blueberry cheesecake or cake batter ice cream.
5. I spend my entire commute to work talking myself out of getting a breakfast sandwich from McDonald's. Everyday.
   
6. I can't stand when an elevator door is closing and someone runs up and busts in.
