Sparkly Baubles

I am hosting a "sparkle and shined" theme brunch this weekend. I asked my girlfriends to wear something sparkly, but I'm having a hard time finding something for myself to wear that's both flattering AND affordable. I'm thinking about just blinging it up. I have quite a few sparkly necklaces, but I'm bored with them. I'm kind of liking the odd subtlety of this necklace.

Speaking of sparkle, this necklace is on clearance at Macy's. I've been stalking it weekly to see if it's still there and if the price has dropped. It's on open display, so I hope that people aren't trying it on and scuzzing it up. Ha! If I get it, I'm going to make Andy take me to dinner just so I can wear it.

Mermaid Farts Necklace

Bestill my beating heart. And look at the name.

Anyone who knows me in person probably wonders how I could possibly so drawn to pearls given my propensity for naughty language and general chaos. I often wonder myself. But I love 'em. The bigger, the better.

I have to give a 15-minute presentation in front of my entire peer organization in April. (Why did I type that out loud? Now my stomach hurts.) I wish that I could hide behind these farts.

As a total aside, Andy recently referred to farts as "Street Justice." I love him.

New Bling

My friend gave me an adorable ring as a hostess gift this weekend:

I loved it! Unfortunately, it was a bit too snug. I exchanged it for this:

What a great consolation prize, huh? My friend is so generous. She was the guest of honor and I get a gift!

And while I'm looking at kate spade jewelery...

I totally want these purple earrings:

This would make an excellent statement necklace on your wedding day:

This would make an awesome "something blue:"

Water, Water Everywhere, Yet Nothing to Drink

I've had a $50 gift certificate from Anthropologie burning a hole in my pocket since my birthday. I finally had brunch plans yesterday that put me right next to an Anthropologie. I excitedly picked out my "free" gift only to arrive at the counter and realize that I had left my gift card at home! Fate was telling me to lay off the bling and save my free pennies for fun summer clothes.

I was buying this necklace:

But there was so much temptation! I'm glad that my local store didn't have any of these, as I would have been in a quandary for sure.

Damn.

Do I wish that I had never seen these.

If When I meet my weight-loss goal, I am buying myself one as a reward. They're killin' me.

I was so drawn to the bride's necklace in yesterday's post.

Then I saw nie's cute necklace...I think that I need a new treat.

Oh, do I wish that I could wear headbands! They just don't look right on my noggin.

Pearl-fection, Indeed.

I was kidding myself when I said that I wouldn't lust after pearl bracelets if I got this one.

Bracelet

Sorry for the lack of posting. I'm kind of in a funk. But here's some happy news I forgot to share! Remember the bracelet that I loved enough to write about here and here

Andy's sister bought it for me for working on her wedding projects. Yeah!

Simply Vera Wang for Kohl's

Was anyone else totally amazed by the cuteness of the "Simply Vera" line for Kohl's on last week's Martha Wedding special?

I couldn't believe that awesome necklace. Definitely sign me up for one of those. I'm going to have my mom put those on her Kohl's Clearance Radar.

They don't seem to have any of the other items from the show online, but there are a few other cute things. These would be great shower and rehearsal dinner outfits for brides and bridesmaids, not to mention great wedding guest outfits.

This purple dress is on sale for $39.00! I wish that I could wear this style.

I wonder if Andy would notice if I spent the Kohl's gift card that we received as a wedding gift from his aunt on a new necklace? Ha. Ha.

Several years ago, I helped a friend and her husband with the essays for their business school applications. I had decided that my answer to the "Who would you have dinner with?" question would have been Martha, Vera, and Kate Spade. The idea that these women built empires on things that they love amazes me. And how Vera Wang and Kate Spade created non-essential, somewhat luxury items that everyday people not only crave, but will actually purchase on occassion awes me.

Bling Redo II

If I would have gotten married back in my ingenue days, I would have loved a short, flirty dress.

I wonder if I should stop torturing myself and just buy this bracelet? Andy would never even notice that I bought it, but I feel guilty spending money when we're supposed to be building a Recession Fund.  We have a wedding to attend in June. I can always recycle my navy J. Crew Sophia dress and shine it up with this pretty bling.

Bling Redo

If I had seen this last year, my whole look would have been styled around this bracelet. I can just hear it clinking as I move through the room.

I'd swap out the shoes for a lovely light gold d'orsay or add a pearl and diamond clip to them. And I'd don a retro fur caplet that my mom and I would find in an antique store.

I Want to Get Remarried...

...wearing this exact ensemble:

Oh, how I wish that I had worn a dress worthy of a statement necklace.

Dear Blogger, Please Don't Crash After I Finish This Post.

  1. Why do I always forget to save early/save often despite Blogger ruining so many posts on me?

  2. This N-O-T an e-mail that a girl wants to receive from her hairstylist 45 days before her wedding.

He was just assigned to do a show in Puerto Rico the day after the wedding. I am so bummed. Hair is hair, but he's my buddy, so I'm upset that he won't be able to come to the wedding. I don't even know how to describe my hair stylist. Put it this way, Naomi Campbell spots him in Topshop, recognizes him, and then gets him into clubs in Paris; he has a tattoo on his forearm that is a UPC code of a tampon box; and he'll do things like wear a beaver trucker hat on the day that I'm coming in, because I'd "get it." I just love him.

  3. I think that the OOT tote bags are a pipedream. I realize that this isn't an issue to anyone but me, but now that I have them in my mind, nothing will compare to them. I'm trying to think of some cheap DIY alternatives. I can print my own iron-on transfers, but I use those all of the time and they come out just OK. Does anyone have a copy of this CD that I can beg, borrow, or steal? Paper Source has discontinued it, the 'old standbys eBay and Amazon don't carry it, and the distributor charges $65 for it. I don't like or need it that much.

  4. When I saw these new J. Crew shoes on Pretty Pretty Paper today, my heart actually skipped a beat. These are EXACTLY what my rehearsal dinner outfit needs. Unfortunately, the $365 price is not what my RD outfit needs. Boooooooooooooooooooooo, J. Crew! Boooooooooooooooooo!

  5. This pretty bauble spotted today on Coco + Kelley would also be a dandy addition to my rehearsal dinner dress. I need to return to vintage jewelry. I miss it.
