Indecision 2010: The Final Vote's Been Cast

After way too much reflection on something so superficial, the winner is:

Paper Source Chartreuse!

It's not an exact match, but it's pretty close.

It took poor Anjelica and Yarizka at the Lincoln and McCormick Home Depot about an hour and a half to color match this color. Here is the formula in case anyone else wants it:

This is the third time that I've used green paint and the third time that painting with green paint has been a nightmare. It was even worse than salmon pink. I don't know if it's just Behr paint or if the yellow/green pigment is just tough. I have three more non-green Behr projects to finish, so we'll see.

You cannot be color blind if you aspire to fly fighter jets or attend our wedding.

I was flipping through an invitation book when I got the idea to play around with the standard monogram-in-a-circle-of-dots that is popular these days. I thought that it would be cool to do a play on the Ishihara color test used to test for color blindness at the DMV. (I totally admit to having to look up the name of that test on Wikipedia.)

I tossed the following (very) rough draft together to test drive the design. The yellow and slate gray were my original colors:

I really hope that it's closed to finish because I am tired of looking at it. Every time I go to start it over, I get lazy and make the same mistakes. What do you think? I have been receiving the following comments about it:

• "It looks like the color blind test at the driver's license place."
• "What does 'ta' mean?" (Not even kidding. I get that a lot.)
• "OMG. Your initials are 't 'n a'?"

I think it's funny that most of my friends are first realizing that our initials are "T 'n A." I really admire typography, so I couldn't not use our initials for anything. I decided to meet myself halfway and didn't use an ampersand. But I also think that it's funny that those are our initials. I am toying with giving out monogrammed mud flaps as favors:

Color Me Badd

I love the color green. L-O-V-E it. Case in point, we were walking out of J. Crew last year and when I pointed out a green hoodie that I liked, Andy said, "They could spray paint a turd green and you'd have to have it." So, given that, I decided that I didn't want a green wedding because it would be too obvious. (i.e., "Of course Tina is having a green wedding.") Then we scored our October date at A New Leaf and I had to officially abandon the spring for a warmer palette.

I really wanted to celebrate the beautiful season with a somewhat unique palette. I used the Big Huge Labs web site to turn this photo of a tree, taken while I was watching the 2006 Chicago Marathon, into a bright fall palette:

I was excited that it includes a grayish green that would allow me to still play with slate gray if I wanted to. And salmon and rust are unique takes on the traditional orange and brown. I think that it's funny that this palette kind of looks like my old apartment. I must be a "warm!" I just hope that the wedding's not full of thousand leggers like my little dump was. Maybe I should wear waterproof mascara just in case.
